Review: ‘Quintessentially Q’ by Pepper Winters (Monsters in the Dark #2)

“All my life, I battled with the knowledge I was twisted… fucked up to want something so deliciously dark—wrong on so many levels. But then slave fifty-eight entered my world. Hissing, fighting, with a core of iron, she showed me an existence where two wrongs make a right.”

Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably. But now, they must learn the boundaries of their unconventional relationship, while Tess seeks vengeance on the men who sold her. Q made a blood-oath to deliver their corpses at Tess’s feet, and that’s just what he’ll do.

He may be a monster, but he’s Tess’s monster.

*I received a free copy of this book for my honest review. Thank you, Pepper!*

So it was Christmas and I should’ve been sitting with my family, chatting with my friends on Facebook, visiting Italy, but all I’ve done was to read ‘Quintessentially Q’, because…

Are you fucking kidding me? This book is freaking brilliant. I am so excited that I can’t even talk nicely right now. Because ‘Quintessentially Q’ was one of the best books I read in 2013. It was pure awesomeness. It’s one of those books that give yo uthe feels, you know? That book that makes you dizzy and scares you, but you can’t put it down because it’s one of the most brilliant books you’ve ever read.

Two weeks after finishing this book my mind is still pretty much wrapped around it and around everything that happened in it. I am still connected with the characters and this never happened to me before. I connected in a special way with the characters and I feel like they are realy people, like they are my friends. This is really weird, because I don’t get so attached to characters.

Pepper went to a new lever of darkness with this book. If you think that ‘Tears of Tess’ is intense and dark, well, compared to ‘Quintessentially Q’ it’s not. This book is so intense and dark that sometimes it’s scary. ‘Quintessentially Q’ scared the hell out of me because it’s so dark and so many twisted thing happen in that book and you just think ‘What if I’ll happen to me? What would I do?’. This makes you realise all the horrible things that can happen to you and all the horrible people that surround us. At some point, you will be so overwhelmed and kind of scared that you will want to put it down, but you will be too addicted to the book to be able to do that.

And sometimes, while I was reading, I was wondering ‘Where the hell did that come from?’ or ‘How did Pepper (I imagine her as a tiny, fragile woman) come up with something so dark and twisted?’. I have my dark side too. Sometimes I am afraid of what my mind or I am thinking. But I never came up with so many frightening and dark things and it’s a little hard to think that someone is so brilliant to come up with so many dark and brilliant things.

While reading, you feel like you need to put the book down for a second, rest your mind and try to come back in your world. But you can’t, because you are so attached to the characters and the story and everything about this book holds your heart so tight that you simply can not put it down. For me, ‘Quintessentially Q’ was the 4th best book I’ve read in 2013. And I’ve never thought I would love an erotic book so much, but I do. Because, let me tell you, this series, this book, isn’t just that: an erotic book. Yes, there are some really steamy scenes. But it’s more than that. You can find a complex story, a lifelesson and some badasses in this book.! She is probaly my favorite character ever! She’s so strong because she could overcome everything that happened to her. At some point, she annoyed me because she refused to fight. And it was so frustating because I knew she could do it! I knew she could overcome everything and I knew that wasn’t her. Tess doesn’t give up. It’s crazy how much I can respect a fictional character, but I do. I respect Tess very much for everything she did. She amazed me in this volume!

I respect Q as well. Even though he has some really dark thoughts and desires, he’s a kind, careful, loving man. I can’t believe how many things he did for Tess, especially at the end of the book. He could’ve died, for fuck’s sake! Oh, and now I am so excited about this book that I’ve started swearing again. Let me calm down a little bit.

*Breathes deep 3 times.*

Ok, I am calmer now.

Q was as brilliant as Tess. He’s such a complicated, complex, mysterious, clever, sexy man and sometimes he can be overwhelming. He’s one of those characters that you wish you could meet and talk to. He’s simplu a genius.

Q and Tess relationship develops in a good way in this book. They’re trying how to trust, respect and love each other and in the same time they are building their own little, twisted, dark world. Probably my favorite couple ever. They are perfect for each other, and as the author says, they complete each other. “Tess is Q’s completely. Q is Tess’s irrevocably.”

This book is so unpredictable that sometimes it’s annoying. You can’t guess anything that’s going to happen and there are so many plot twists and unexpected things happen in every chapter that this is one of the most captivating books I’ve ever read and UGH I want to read it again and again! Yes, I feel like reading it again because holy crap it was so amazing and my feelings are back and I need to calm down.

The point is, you can never guess what’s going to happen and Pepper has some pretty big surprises for you. Some of them you’ll like, some of them you won’t. That plot twist, that major thing that changes the entire book and series is so big (did I say it is big) that you will need to read the page again and see if what you read is true or it’s a figment of your imagination. Man, I was so angry and pissed off and sad and I want to rip that bastard’s head off! UGH!

This book blew me away! I would read it again any moment of the day if I could.

I lve the writing style. It’s so perfect and elegant and dark and it has something insane in it and some brilliance that is hard to describe. It’s hard to put your finger on what exactly makes Pepper’s writing so addictive, but I think it’s a mix between darkness, insanity (I am not saying you are insane, Pepper. I am saying you’re an insane author, if you know what I mean), and elegance.

Pepper, I think you’re an amazing, talented author. And I’d like to thank you for giving me another reason to love reading. And also, thank you for giving me such an incredible book! ❤

This book shows that love can get you through anything. Q’s love for Tess is radiating from the book. You know, it’s so obvious that he loves her. Anything he does shows us his love for her. Such an amazing thing! Not many authors are able to show us in such a simple way the love between their character and still be able to make us feel that freaking love.

I seriously cannot wait to read the 3rd book in this series, ‘Twisted Together’. I feel like there’s going to happen something super big between Tess and Q. I bet Pepper plans to blow us away again with ‘Twisted Together’. In fact, I am sure that’s what she’ll do.

The scenes are very real and vivid. You can actually see Tess going through all those awful things in your mind. You can see Q killing. You can see them being twisted together. Some scenes make your skin crawl.

‘Quintessentially Q’ was very captivating and, as I said, unpredictable. You never know what to expect from it. And there’s always something that keeps you guessing, something that makes you turn the page.

This book takes you from your world and makes you forget about all your problems. All you know is that you have to read, that you have to find out what happens between Q and Tess and what will happen to Tess.

Once again, let me say that I absolutely adored and loved and liked (haha) ‘Quintessentially Q’. It’s even a better book than the first one, ‘Tears of Tess’. I don’t know if I am prepared yet to read ‘Twisted Together’, because I haven’t ‘detached’ myself from Quintessentially Q. I don’t know what to expect from Pepper with her 3rd book.

I feel like screaming from the top of the world “People, read this book! You don’t know what you’re fucking losing!”. And I am not exaggerating. I want everyone to read this book and series, because it’s brilliant! One of the best books and series I’ve read in 2013.

I still can’t believe Pepper came up with such an amazing book. Someone, make me stop. I need to stop writing about how amazing this book is, because otherwise, I will be writing all night long.

So now that you’ve finished reading this book? Go read the first book, ‘Tears of Tess’. Then read ‘Quintessentially Q’. Attention, please! If you are offended by Bdsm, violence, abuse and erotism, don’t read it. If you’re not, then read it.

P.S.: Sorry for all the coursing and for the lack of coherence.

Review: “Star Struck” by Amber Garza

star struch

I don’t go for bad boys, or rockers.
And I don’t believe in love at first sight.
Until I see Beckett.
And things only get worse when I hear him sing.
There is no one like him.
The problem is that he wants nothing to do with me.
And I know I should stay away from him.
It’s the smart thing to do.
Only when it comes to Beckett I don’t want to do the smart thing. He makes me want to take a risk.

I just hope he decides to take a risk on me too.

My review:

*I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you!*

I.LOVED.THIS.BOOK! ‘Star Struck’ is an amazing book that had me fangirling all the time.

I was glued to this book from the start, First of all, because I love Amber Garza’s books. Second, because as a musician myself, I love books about musicians. I love the atmosphere, the way music is described by the characters and they way my 2 biggest passions interweave. I love the way these kind of books make me feel. ‘Star Struck’ is one of those books. It’s a book that made me fall harder in love with both music and books. It’s a book that I’ll never forget.

As I was reading and the bond between Star and Beckett was growing, I found myself even more intrigued. There was a question that didn’t let me put down the book: What is Beckett’s story?

Speaking about Beckett, he was a jerk in the beginning. I kept asking myseld ‘What is this guy’s problem?’. I mean, on minute he was sweet and I wanted to hug him, and the other minute he was a jerk and all I wanted to do was to smack him in the head. But after 5 chapters I think, I began to understand why he acts so strangely. And I also understood  that this I-am-a-jerk attitude is just a masque. Throughout the book, I finally found out his true self. Beckett is sweet, smart, sarcastic, with an amazing sense of humor, super hot and talented guy with a broken heart.

Star? She was very sweet. I loved her! I loved her for fighting for her dreams and for her love and for standing for herself. She was soooo funny sometimes!

The storyline is poetic, tragic and funny in the same time, full of longing and passion. It made me feel a lot of things, anger and heartbreak between them. I laughed a lot while reading this book. The banter and flirt between Star and Beckett made me laugh even when all I wanted to do was cry,

That one plot twist? That one that ame after I thought that everything was going all right? I wanted to rip Beckett’s head off!!I wa ssoooooooooooo angry with him!

I loved the scenes where Star and Beckett wrote togethere or where they performed together. The intimacy and chemistry between them was palpable.

“Star Struck” is a brilliang read that pulled at my heart strings. Great characters, strong feelings, intense story, lots of music => ‘Star Struck’. In this book I found everything I want from a book. Highly recommend it!

Review: ‘Undeniable’ by Micalea Smeltzer

2nd book in the Second Chances Series Karlie and Holden’s story  (This is a New Adult Contemporary Romance recommended for readers 18+ it contains graphic language, sex, and deals with mature subject matter)  Karlie Reed has been crushing on Holden Marks for as long as she can remember. The problem? He’s eight years older than her and her brother’s best friend.  One night, when things get out of hand, they make a pact. They’ll spend the summer together and when Karlie goes to Joffrey Ballet School, their affair will end. No emotions, no hearts broken. But nothing is that easy.  When the unexpected happens, Karlie and Holden are rocked to the core. Karlie will run. But will Holden fight for her? NOTE: You do NOT need to read Unraveling to understand Undeniable.

*I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you, Micalea!*

I am a huge fan of the ‘Second Chances’ series. I read the first book, ‘Unraveling’ a few weeks ago and I loved every second of it. I fell in love with the story, with the characters, with Micalea’s writing. My favorite character, after Katie and Jared, was Karlie. She was such an adorable teenager and her passion for ballet made ma adore her immediately. And she and Holden… well, I really wanted to read their story. So when I read the last pages in ‘Unraveling’ and saw that Micalea is actually writing their own book, I was very happy. I waited for ‘Undeniable’ for like, 20 days, but it felt like forever.

Saturday night, when I got the book, I wanted to read just the first page. But after the first page, I couldn’t stop, so I read until 2am in the morning, until I reached 50%. Then Sunday, I didn’t even want to eat. I just wanted to read, read, read. This is one of those books that won’t let you put it down.

Oh God I loved this book!! I cried, I laughed, I’ve been angry, I giggled because of how cute Karlie and Holden were together. Brilliant, brilliant!! I’m serious heart broken since I finished this book. I mean, no more Karlie and Holden? No more Jared and Katy? No more of this brilliant series? Someone get me to psychologist. I’m depressed.

Hm…. *sighing*. This love story is one of the best I’ve ever read. It’s not usual, too. I mean, I’ve never read a book where the age gap between the main characters was 8 years. But it was very interesting to read , especially for me because I have crushes only on older guys. So yup, I totally understood Karlie.

God it’s difficult to write this review. I loved this book so much and it’s hard to describe it. “Undeniable” is the kind of book that has everything and you love it, but when it comes to review it, it’s kind of impossible.

Micalea’s writing is much better than in the first book. Comparing “Undeniable” with’ Unraveling’, everything is better. Her writing is more lyrical, the emotions are easier to understand and there is no rush. I didn’t find any rushed scenes and this is an important thing for me. Plus, the editing is sooooo much better than in ‘Unraveling’.

What impressed me the most? I think Micalea’s best advantage is the way she makes you understand the feelings of the characters. I mean, this book made me very emotional. When Karlie was sad, I was sad. When she was with Holden, I could understand her nerves and her love. When she left for New York I totally understood her. I’m a voiolinist and I’m supposed to leave home in 3 years for London. So I know what she’s going through.

The characters grow and become more mature as the action and the story unfold. In the beginning, Karlie was an innocent 18 years old girl with a crush on his brother’s best friend. In the end, she was a women that lost something precious (I’m not gonna say what, because I’d give you a huge spoiler!) . A woman that lived a drama, a woman with dreams, a woman that loves.

But Karlie isn’t the only one that grows in this book. In the beginning, Holden was a “man whore” (I think Karlie called him like this one time). Every night, he was with another womam. But when he agreed to have a summer of fun with Karlie, he changed. He changed the way he was thinking, he changed his opinion about himself. Love changed him. In the end, he was a grown-up man.

The passion and chemistry between Karlie and Holden is undeniable. I loved how, in the beginning, they were trying to deny their feelings for each other. But the heart gets what she wants, right?

There are some super hot scenes in this book. I LOL-ed at some of these scenes, because of Karlie’s nerves and awkwardness. I mean, she was super cute in the first steamy scene with Holden.

I’m really sad that this series is over. I loved it, it’s one of my favorite series this year so far. I can’t wait to read Micalea’s other books.

Whatever you are reading right now, drop it and pick up the ‘Second Chances’ series. Both of the books, “Unraveling” and “Undeniable’ will make you cry, laugh, love. I’ve never expected to love this series so much, to be honest!

Now that I finished, go and read ‘Unraveling’ then ‘Undeniable’.

Review: ‘Today Only’ by D. Love

today only

*I’m honored to say that I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!*

I’ve never thought that writing a review could be that hard. But here I am, an hour after I finished ‘Today Only’, with a broken heart, trying to write a review that can describe this book to its own brilliance. Nothing that I say here can describe it as it is.

‘Today Only’ isn’t only a book. ‘Today Only’ is a life lession. I’m 15 year old, so still a teenager. I’ve been through a lot, I suffered, I cried and I learned a lot of things. But ‘Today Only’ taught me more things that school or life could have taught me in 15 years. This book taught me to live, to appreciate every second of this life and to be happy for everything I get. ‘Today Only’ taught me to see the beauty in everything.

Not many books can make me cry or change my vision of life. But this book is very special and important. I think everyone should read it, because it holds a lot of lessions and beauty in it. After you’ll read ‘Today Only’, you’ll realize that your life isn’t as bad as you thought it is.

This book is a roller coaster of emotions. One second I was laughing because Em was so adorable, and the next second I was crying because Rye’s story was breaking my heart. I cried, I laughed, I loved, I squealed. But mainly I was crying.

I fell in love with the story and with the characters from the first page. Every singled character in this book is special and I loved them. Even though I started this book this morning and finished it a few hours later, I felt like I knew them a lifetime. I loved Em, Katy, Rye and especially Jett. I must admit that I was afraid of turning the page, afraid of what the next page will bring to Rye and Jett. I was hoping for a miracle that never came.

I am very surprised because this is D. Love’s first book! I mean, seriously. The writing-style is perfect. The characters? Well develped. The story? Beautiful. And there are  so many beautiful quotes!! It’s true that it wouldn’t be bad if the book could go through another round of editing. I found some mistakes and this book doesn’t deserve mistakes.

‘Today Only’ is a short book, I read it in one seat. Of course, the stry hooked me from the beginning.

I don’t know what else to tell you that ‘Today Only’ it’s a book worth reading. Everyone should read it. This should be a bestseller, because it’s an important book and I think everyone should read it. It tells you to love life.

‘Today Only’ is a book that I will re-read for sure. I loved every moment of it and I recommend it from the bottom of my heart! J

Oh, wanna know a thing that this book taught me?

Today Only…

If you wanna know what does this mean, read the book.

In life, there are times you are granted a miracle. It may not be the one you wanted exactly, but it will be the one you need. It will prepare you for the next step in your journey and help you learn to accept the life you are given, even if that life can be heartbreaking.
